CATERMASTERS CORPORATE & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT

Catermasters Head Office is a Carbon Zero business; offsetting our current footprint by investing in UK forestry plantations in Cumbria, Devon and Cornwall and working in partnership with CO2balance.com to further reduce our emissions in the future.

Environmental policy statement
Catermasters will combine profitable commercial activities in its business with high environmental standards.

In particular we aim to minimise waste in all aspects of our business and to reduce energy consumption, thereby minimising client costs and respecting the environment. When feasible and cost effective we will use renewable and recyclable materials.

Customers, suppliers and employees of Catermasters will all be encouraged to adopt environmentally aware polices and attitudes.

Mission statement
We will continue to look for new ideas to improve our environmental performance by

  • Developing employees awareness and understanding of environmental issues.
  • Encouraging suppliers in their efforts to reduce the environmental impact of their products and services.
  • Being aware of environmental developments which relate to our business.

Company and employee responsibilities
It is Catermasters Directors responsibilities to ensure the implementation of the Company Corporate Responsibility Policy and objectives throughout the company.

Operations managers responsibility
It is the Operations Managers responsibility to ensure that all unit managers are made aware of the Company Corporate Responsibility Policy and that the utmost endeavour is given to achieving our objectives.

  • The Operations Manager will be responsible for the continuous monitoring of each units Environmental performance.
  • Co-ordinate all environmental instructions and act as an information base.
  • Minimise the companies overall consumption of fuel by carefully planning routes between different client locations.

Employees responsibility
To enable Catermasters to achieve our Environmental aims all employees shall:

  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure the company environmental aims are achieved.
  • Report to your line manager any non compliance of our policy or suggestions to improve our aims.

Waste management
In partnership with our clients, Catermasters aim is to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.

  • Keep waste to a minimum by not over ordering or producing.
  • Use approved suppliers and recycled disposable products wherever possible.
  • Introduce can, plastic cup, waste oil and cardboard recycling schemes into units where cost effective and feasible.
  • Research and update our clients and employees on the facts about biodegradable packaging.
  • Offer used coffee grinds for composting.
  • Separate and recycle waste products whenever possible in accordance with the facilities available.
  • Arrange for safe storage and collection of waste cooking oil for recycling into bio diesel.
  • Use recycled paper and limit excessive use of paper whenever possible.
  • Reduce office paper wastage by 25%.

Equipment chemical waste
Eliminate the use of CFC refrigerants and to only purchase refrigeration equipment containing non CFC refrigerant gas.

Sustainability
Ensuring that our ingredients are purchased from the most sustainable sources, protecting the environment for future generations.

  • No products are purchased containing Genetically Modified Organisms.
  • Offer customers the choice of Free Range poultry and eggs.
  • Provide customers information on the ingredients we use.
  • Provide sustainable alternatives to over fished produce e.g. Cod.

Climate
Catermasters aim to reduce our carbon footprint year on year, working in partnership with our clients, employees and suppliers.

  • Reduce energy usage by turning off power or gas supply immediately after use.
  • Discourage staff from leaving taps running unnecessarily.
  • Recommend the purchase of water saving Dishwashers.
  • Encourage the use of energy saving equipment and lights.
  • Issue all contracts with appropriate energy saving signage such as turn off the light.
  • Completely fill dishwashers before use.
  • Reduce the amount of deliveries with careful volume purchasing.
  • Work in partnership with suppliers to ensure they are also reducing their carbon footprints.
  • Source as much produce as possible from the UK.
  • Introduce a Green business travel policy.

Fair partner

  • Where practical Catermasters use local suppliers to purchase meat, bread, milk, fruit and vegetables. We actively seek to reduce the amount of miles food has to travel before being consumed.
  • Catermasters are one of the leading companies in developing the use of Fairtrade products and we actively encourage our Clients and Customers to support this worthwhile movement
  • Selling ‘One’ branded bottled water which donates the profits to building water pumps in Africa.
  • Where practical and financially viable, we offer a range of organic produce, such as fruit, vegetables, dairy products and meat.
  • Offer customers the choice of healthy nutritional balanced menus including vegetarian options.
  • As well as our ethical policy towards service, we also maintain the same standard to our staff. For example we:
    • Employ full and part-time staff of all ages.
    • Do not discriminate in any way and will not work with companies that do.
    • Employ people on the basis of their suitability for the position required, not on the basis of their sex, creed, race or beliefs.
    • Work with local communities, national and international charity projects.

Smoking policy
Our Head and Regional Offices operate a no smoking policy and we discourage smoking on client premises.

Site vehicles
Use liquid gas or diesel powered vehicles on large sties where the delivery of food and supplies around the site is a daily necessity.
